Reptilians
The claim that shapeshifting reptilian beings occupy positions of power has produced no evidence of any kind. Its most influential version substitutes lizards for the cast of an older antisemitic conspiracy narrative, which is the most important fact about it.
Why this verdict
Debunked as a biological and evidentiary claim, with no specimen, no image, no document and no falsifiable mechanism in forty years — and flagged here because its best-known formulation carries an antisemitic lineage that the reptilian framing conceals.

01The claim
That an interdimensional or extraterrestrial reptilian species, capable of appearing human, occupies royal houses, governments and financial institutions, and has directed human history for millennia.
02Where it came from
Reptilian humanoids appear in pulp science fiction from the 1920s and in 1930s Theosophical writing. The modern conspiracy version is largely the work of David Icke, a former footballer and BBC sports presenter, whose books from the mid-1990s describe a 'Babylonian Brotherhood' of reptilian bloodlines.
This is where the entry needs to be explicit rather than coy. Icke's account borrows its architecture — an ancient bloodline conspiracy, a forged foundational text, a hidden hand behind banking and media — directly from The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, an antisemitic forgery produced by the Tsarist secret police and exposed as plagiarism by The Times of London in 1921. Icke has cited the Protocols as authentic in substance while attributing them to reptilians rather than to Jews. Researchers of antisemitism, including at the Anti-Defamation League and the Community Security Trust, have documented this substitution and treat it as a coded form rather than a departure. Anyone encountering the reptilian claim should know what it is a translation of.
03What the record shows
✕ DEBUNKED — Investigated and refuted. Here is what actually happened.
As a factual claim it requires no elaborate refutation, because it offers nothing to refute. In roughly forty years the claim has produced no body, no bone, no clinical finding, no photograph that survives examination, no leaked document and no defector with checkable credentials. Videos purporting to show shapeshifting on television are compression artefacts and interlacing errors — reproducible on any footage, of anyone.
Biologically it is incoherent: a species capable of passing as human, interbreeding with humans, and reverting under stress would leave genetic evidence in every sequenced human genome, and human genomes have been sequenced in the millions. The claim's usual escape — that the beings exist at another vibrational frequency — removes it from the domain of evidence entirely, which is a concession rather than a defence.
A 2013 Public Policy Polling survey found 4% of American respondents endorsing the claim, a figure that is probably better read as a measure of survey trolling than of belief.
04What it cost
The reptilian frame's function is laundering. It allows an old ethnic conspiracy narrative to be told with the ethnic component removed at the surface and retained in the structure, so that repeating it does not feel like repeating that. Its adherents frequently do not know the lineage. That is precisely why this archive names it here rather than treating the lizards as harmless whimsy.
